About the Studio
My studio focuses on Smart Lighting design, both luminaires and lighting environments. Central in my work are interactions between people and their environment, treated from both a social and ecological perspective. I summarise my approach as Transformational Lighting Design.
My combined background as industrial design engineer (MSc TU Delft, cum laude), researcher (PhD TU/e, cum laude) and practicing designer/artist, allows me to combine inspiration and insights from these different fields in new ways. I am active in all these areas and my work is varied, including Smart Lighting design, international light art, design of smart luminaires, authoring publications and giving presentations. Two of my main drivers are the social and ecological implications and opportunities of light. This translates into projects, tools and techniques, such as Light Sketching, that engage people in lighting design while giving nature a voice. I work for clients from industry, academics, festivals and governmental bodies in Europe, the USA and Asia.
